PASTOR JACK'S THOUGHTS SEPTEMBER 8, 2009
THE OUTSTANDING LIFE OF GOD'S MAN
Of all the characters in the old Testament, David was one of the most outstanding. From the first time we see David mentioned in the Bible, we know that he loved God! The psalms that he wrote are powerful in faith and praise of God. God spoke and David obeyed. He wasn't afraid to work and he wasn't afraid of people but most of all he revered His God! We can learn so much from reading about David. He can be an example for each of us as we walk in our faith. He was a mighty man and a mighty King. He trusted God!
Then there came the awful failure of sin! Yes, even God's children sin and fail. We can even learn from that incident in David's life where he took another man's wife and then murdered her husband!
Evil, dreadful evil, had overtaken him and God's hand of punishment disciplined David. David cried and wept before God. He was grieved in his soul but he wept before God in repentance. He recognized his sin as a sin against the God that he loved so dearly. His heart was melted before God and he begged for forgiveness. Did God forgive? Absolutely! David had to live with the consequences of his sin but he was restored to His Father God.
We can learn about the horror of sin from David and we can learn about great repentance from him too. God didn't overlook David's sin and he allow David to suffer the consequences of his failure but God did forgive him. It was David himself who wrote, "Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered." (Psalm 32) Let us learn how not to sin from what we see in David's life but if we do sin, let us also follow his example and run in repentance to God. He will hear.
God's mercy is everlasting,
Pastor Jack
