FAMILIES: GOD'S PRECIOUS GIFT
Have you ever thought how blessed we are to have families? The first part of Psalm 68:6 says that "God sets the lonely in families...." How interesting! In Genesis, we find that God said that it was not good for man to be alone so He made a partner for him. God instituted families. In the Ten Commandments we read that the 5th commandment says, "Honor your father and mother...." God established an order for the families that He gave.
As we think about Mother's Day (this Sunday) and Father's Day (in June), let us remember that God not only founded the institution of family but that He put His blessings on families. Because He blesses the family, He expects each of us to have a special place in our actions and thinking for our family. We notice that God didn't say, "Honor you mother and father if they agree with you or if they always do what you think they should do".....no, He said, "Honor (give respect to) your father and mother."
This Sunday at camp, I will be speaking about the family and how precious it is in God's sight. Between now and Sunday, pay special attention to the way you show respect and honor to you parents and grandparents. Also, how you honor other members of your family. Are kindness, mercy and love a part of your actions and thoughts about your family? It is my prayer that they are.
