PASTOR JACK'S THOUGHTS      JUNE 1, 2009

SERVANTS IN OUR MODERN WORLD??
In our world today, no one wants to talk about being a servant, do they?  We think of servant hood as  being a very lowly position.  Actually, God's Word does not look at it that way at all.  Jesus said, "Those who want to be first shall be last and the servant of all." Mark 9:35  Meaning that if we try to give ourselves a high position, we will have to take a lowly position and those who are servants of all will be in first place in God's Kingdom!  Interesting thought!  He also said, "Follow my example." Then he took up a towel and the position of a servant and washed His disciples feet!!  How lowly!!  What did He mean?  Actually, it all goes back to our attitude which has its source in our heart!  Proverbs 4:23 says, "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life." The fruit of our heart is our attitude and our attitude greatly affects our actions.

Philippians 2: 5-8, tells us that our mind (attitude) should be the same as Jesus' attitude.  He lowered Himself from His Godly state and became a servant in order to die for us on the cross. He shed His blood so that we might live. We are expected to follow His example by being willing to even die for Him. So we need to follow HIM by becoming, in heart and attitude, a servant to all.  How would it change your home if each person in the family worked for the good and help of each other.  Could we ask the questions, "What could I do to help you today? How can I make your day easier?"  These are questions of a true servant of God.  I can envision that, if we began in our homes to try to please and help each other, then it would expand to our church family and then to our friends.  Wouldn't our world be better and less stressful?  I know what you are thinking, some people would take advantage of our kind questions and they would ask us to do things that we could not do.  Possibly some would, but then many would not. Give it a try this week and see what you think.

Blessings,
Pastor Jack
