Pastor Jack's Thoughts 02/10/09
In a few days it will be Valentine's Day and the main emphasis is on romantic love. This turned my thoughts to God's love for us. I looked in the scriptures to read again of His Love for us. Agape love is mentioned over 250 times in the N.T. and many of those times are expressions of God's love through Christ for us.
1. God's love for Israel was demonstrated by delivering them from the bondage in Egypt. (Deut. 7:8).
2. God's sacrificial love was demonstrated to us because while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. "But God demonstrates His love for us in this: while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8, John 3:16)
3. God's great love made us alive (note alive) in Christ and saved us. (Eph.2-4-5)
4. God's love is an everlasting love toward us and He draws us to him with His love. (Jer.31:3)
5. God's love is so great that he lavishes His love on us and calls us His children. (I John 3:1). Lavish in the dictionary means generous and extravagant.
6. God's love is so great that we cannot be seperated from His love. (Rom. 8:35-38).
Concentrate this week on thanking God for His love and make definite attempts to share that 'God love' with others.
