The Angels of Advent

THE FOURTH CANDLE IN ADVENT IS THE ANGELS CANDLE

Angels were the first ones to proclaim the joy of Christmas. So the fourth candle of Advent is a reminder of the joy of Christmas. It tells us of the great joy that is ours in Jesus Christ. So we see angels in many Christmas plays and stories.

Angels brought the news of the birth of the Christ Child. Gabriel was the heavenly Evangel Christmas angel that brought the divine news to Mary and revealed that she was chosen to bear God's son. (Luke 1:26-38). An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph  and told him not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife, because that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 1:20-24).

An Angel of the Lord appeared to the Shepherds to announce the birth of the Christ Child in Bethlehem. The glory of Lord shone round about the Shepherds, The angel told them, "Do not to be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the City of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:8-11). Then a whole host of Angels joined the angel of the Lord and praised God and sang, "Glory to God in the highest and on earth, peace, good will to men." (Luke 2:13-14).

Here again we have the announcement theme of the Joy of the Birth of the Christ Child.

Then we see the shepherds, after seeing the Christ Child, glorifying and praising God. Luke 2:20

Today, there is a lot of legends and lore surrounding Angels. Remember that angels are created beings to serve the purpose of God. People do not become angels when they die. They are born again through the gospel by the holy Spirit. Peter tells us that even the Angels desire to look into. jI Peter 1:12). Do not take the view of the world concerning angels. Study the word.   ANGELS, a book by Billy Graham is very good and very scriptural. I recommend it for those who would want further study this subject.
